Easter holiday workshops at The Public

Play and Paint Botz

Play and Paint Botz

This Easter a number of fun-filled workshops will take place at The Public in West Bromwich providing visitors from across the region with the opportunity to develop their creative skills and try something new.

Taking inspiration from the art centres ‘Art of Invention’ exhibitions programme, a number of family friendly activities following the theme of invention and science fiction will run alongside the ever popular art and craft classes and digital workshops.

From Monday 11 April to Saturday 23 April, The Public will have something for all ages to enjoy, from helping to build a gigantic mechanical structure in Kinetic Corner, to designing and printing your own mug in the Make a Mug Workshop.

One of The Public’s most ambitious projects to date, ‘Kinetic Corner’, held on 13, 15, 18 and 20 April, invites over 11s to help build a giant mechanical structure using sticks, pulleys, pipes and power!  The amazing spectacle, which will reside in the foyer of the building, runs from 10.15am to 12.30pm and 12.45pm to 3pm and is just £1 per session.

For 3-11 year olds the regular Play and Paint sessions take a sci-fi twist on 13, 15 and 18 April with ‘Play and Paint Botz’.  Youngsters attending the increasingly popular sessions can come and create their own robots, dance and sing, 10.15am to 12.30pm and 12.45pm to 3pm for just £2.  Following the theme of invention, a special ‘Saturday Art Club Inventors Special’ will also be taking place for 3-11 year olds on Saturday 16 April between 10am and 1pm.

‘Robot Drawing Workshops’ take place on 12, 14 and 16 April, where, for £3, over 11s can create their own drawbots using simple batteries and motors, and on 21 April, for £4.50, over 14s can create their own fantasy worlds using Photoshop software in ‘Sci-Fi Scenes’.

On Tuesday 19 April, over 11s with a passion for all things digital are invited to drop into the free ‘Digital Kidz’ surgery and learn a variety of new art techniques.  Over 14s looking for a future in the digital industry are also invited to attend the ‘Digital Youth’ drop in sessions, and be introduced to a variety of exciting new software on Friday 22 April.

Throughout the Easter break The Public will also be hosting a number of adult learner workshops.  On Saturday 9 April the £3 fortnightly art classes over 16s will learn new artistic techniques centred around Still Life from 11am to 2.30pm and on Saturday 23 April will learn about Landscape Drawing.
