Blues beat Bristol City and Andy Munro is impressed.
This wasn’t a vintage Blues performance by any means, so to still run out three-nil winners is a testimony to the team’s recent improvement. With Kristian Pedersen and Maxime Colin out, Blues played their wingers out wide and with two up front this was a very attacking side which paid dividends despite a couple of rocky moments in a fairly even first half.
The Blues defence looked solid, with Marc Roberts a colossus in the air and both George Friend and Dion Sandersen cleaning up around him. While Riley McGree was undoubtedly man of the match, the two ‘wingbacks’ Jeremie Bela and Jordan Graham were a real handful going forward whilst never neglecting their defensive duties.
Up top, Troy Deeney is never going to challenge the Juke’s power in the air but his hold up play and touches are sublime leading to his having a hand in two of our goals. Scott Hogan worked well with him and his goal was a clinical finish.
All this is not to decry Bristol, who had just come off a win (like everybody we have played recently!) and with a forward line of Naki Wells, Chris Martin and Andrei Weimann have plenty to offer. If, and it’s a big if, we can beat Reading we will be really in business, but either way it’s good to be looking up instead of down.
