Digital publisher launches social media agency

Updates Media move into social first media, content & publishing.

Birmingham-based Updates Media has launched a Social First Agency with a twist in Birmingham. The twist? They are also a digital publisher, owning and operating the hugely successful Birmingham Updates. Updates Media now offer services such as social content creation and paid social advertising as well as social media training, using their vast experience of growing their own social community to over 600,000.

Over the last few months, social media has gone through unprecedented changes with a rise in privacy and closed group, long-form content and the need for authenticity with content. The algorithms also continue to make it difficult to achieve organic reach with companies struggling to cut through to their existing audiences on social, let alone new ones.

Through Updates Media’s new agency model, brands will be able to see a true ROI on paid social media advertising through innovative content that gets attention. Brands will also be able to get exclusive access to the Birmingham Updates social pages where content can be distributed to over 600,000 people in Birmingham through paid and organic content.

What’s more, Updates Media can train teams up to be able to manage the day to day running of their social media channels. Finally, with the rise of influencer and bloggers, they have invested in technology to validate their engagement and influence so brands can be a lot more focused and targeted to generate an actual return when running influencer campaigns or inviting key people to events.

As part of the change to deliver an agency offering, Updates Media have also invested in local talent. Tom Kavanagh and Taylor Rooke joined the team as videographers with experience of long-form documentaries and story-telling. Leilah Mahmood also joined the team to bring a wealth of knowledge to content creation and design having grown her own Instagram following to 15,000.

Since soft-launching the agency in November, Updates Media have already welcomed eight clients including the likes of Uber Eats, Town Hall Symphony Hall and Education Events. One of their clients, Dan Bridgewater from Buckt, said: “We have been running social advertising with Updates Media for two months and the results so far have been fantastic! The return on investment and cost per acquisition has been better than all other marketing campaigns that we’ve run during this period by a country mile. This is evidently due to the clear experience of the team in social media, as well as the exceptional trust that their audience has in the brand.”

Oli Hills, CEO of Updates Media, said: “It’s been a really interesting time in the world of social media in the last few months and we’re really excited to have launched our agency offering to bring our knowledge and experience of growing Birmingham Updates to our clients. The team we’ve bought together are hugely experienced and understand social content and we’re really pleased to have such a forward-thinking team.

“What’s more, it’s been brilliant to work with our clients during our soft launch phase to truly validate that we can deliver genuine ROI through paid social advertising as well as support them with creating great content to grow their following organically. We’re very much looking forward to an exciting 2020 and adding more clients to the Updates family.”
