New era for climate change reporting

Environmental conference to be held in Birmingham.

Leading environmental specialists will be speaking at a News Impact Summit in Birmingham on 7th October, which is being held to discuss how technological and journalistic innovation is enabling new forms of reporting on the climate and its impact on our lives.

Among them will be Zion Lights (pictured), spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion and author of The Ultimate Guide to Green Parenting; David Gregory-Kumar, science and environmental correspondent for BBC Midlands Today; Dulcie Lee, an award-winning journalist from BBC News; Juliet Riddell, Head of New Formats at the Financial Times; climate journalist Adam Levy and Adam Vaughan, chief reporter at the New Scientist.

The summit is being organised by the European Journalism Centre, an international non-profit body, which has been building a sustainable, ethical and innovative future for journalism through grants, events, training and media development since 1992.

It is being held at The Studio, a city centre venue located at 7 Cannon Street, Birmingham, B2 5EP. It is free to attend but those wishing to attend are asked to register here

Showcasing innovative ways of changing the way we tell stories about climate change, speakers will also discuss how climate change stories are tackled in the newsroom and how news organisations can produce immersive storytelling that helps the audience understand and appreciate the urgency and complexity of climate change.

“The programme will include inspirational talks and dynamic conversations, along with networking opportunities and collaborative sessions to meet and learn from local and international media experts. It will be a full day of exploring the intersection between technology, innovation and journalism with experts in the industry,” said a spokesman for the European Journalism Centre

Since 2014, the Centre has organised 26 News Impact Summits, powered by the Google News Initiative, in 18 cities in 15 countries across Europe and the Middle East, featuring more than 350 speakers from leading international news organisations.
