Tree-mendous recycling scheme to boost hospice

Have your Christmas tree recycled and help John Taylor Hospice.

John Taylor Hospice is offering to take the hassle out of New Year Christmas tree disposal – with their fundraising recycling and collection scheme.

For a suggested donation of £8, hospice volunteers will collect real Christmas trees between 11th and 13th January in the B23, B24, B72, B73 and B76 areas of Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield.

The scheme, in partnership with facilities management company Mitie and public services provider Amey, will raise vital funds to support the work of the hospice.

John Taylor Hospice provides specialist end of life care for people living with a terminal illness and their families – both at the hospice in Birmingham and in people’s own homes across the West Midlands.

Community and Events Fundraising Manager Emily Boate said: “Disposing of a real Christmas tree in the New Year can be a hassle – trying to squeeze the tree into the car, spending time queueing at the tip and then finding pine needles in the car for weeks to come!

“With our collection scheme our wonderful volunteers will do all the work for you. Simply book your collection date, pop a tag on your tree and leave it outside before Friday 11 January. We’ll then pick it up and recycle it for you.

“Donations for this service will help us to continue providing end of life care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families. We’re a charity and rely heavily upon donations and fundraising to keep all of our services running so we’re really grateful to anyone who gets behind our campaign.”

Mitie’s Digital Media Specialist Josh Wells added: “I’ll be working alongside a dedicated team from Mitie’s Waste business and we are looking forward to spending the day collecting Christmas trees throughout the Birmingham region. We are delighted to be supporting John Taylor Hospice with their campaign. It’s a great opportunity for us to play a part in raising money for those living with a terminal illness while also providing an environmentally friendly service for the community.”

Lara Thorns, Communications and Community Manager for Amey in Birmingham, stated: “We are delighted to be helping John Taylor Hospice raise vital funds so they can support families at the most difficult times. Employees from our local highways team are using their company volunteering days to help plan routes and collect trees and everyone is looking forward to being involved.”
