Superheroes needed for fundraising campaign

Out of this World day set to help hospice.

A Birmingham children’s charity is calling on local superheroes to dust-off their capes for an out-of-this-world fundraising campaign.

Acorns Children’s Hospice, joined forces with Free Radio for the annual Cash for Kids Superhero Day on Friday 4th May, which will see supporters dress up, have some fun and raise money for a good cause.

Fifty per cent of funds raised from the day will be donated by Cash for Kids to Acorns, which operates a hospice, Acorns in Birmingham, Selly Oak – towards the charity’s work caring for life limited and life threatened children across the Midlands.

Lynne Carter, Head of Fundraising at Acorns urged people to sign-up and get planning their superhero parties. She said: “Whether it’s with friends or colleagues, at school or work, this is a brilliant chance for budding supermen and women to get fundraising and make a difference.

“Let your imagination go wild, have some fun and at the same time raise vital funds towards the nearly £10 million it costs for Acorns to continue caring for children and their families across the region.”

Cash for Kids is a registered charity, which provides grants to community projects and small charities supporting children who may be living in poverty or with a serious illness or disability.

Lynne continued: “A huge thank you to Free Radio and Cash for Kids for partnering with Acorns for the Superhero Day. To many of the families we support, our nurses are the real superheroes, so this campaign is apt in more ways than one!”

John Stratton, Regional Fundraising Manager for Free Radio Cash for Kids added: “We’re thrilled to be helping Acorns celebrate their 30th year by supporting them through our Superhero Day.

“As a local charity where all the money we raise stays in the West Midlands, we hope our listeners, businesses and schools across the area will release their inner superhero and get involved. The money raised will make a real difference to local children supported by Acorns, along with the other projects and small charities across the area that will be helped through our grant giving programme.”

In the past year Acorns has cared for over 870 children and more than 1,090 families, including those who are bereaved. Pick up a Superhero Day fundraising pack from your local Acorns shop.
