Cinema celebrated at Artrix

Timely cinema screenings this February and March.

Artrix arts centre in Bromsgrove will be presenting a range of cinema screenings to coincide with and celebrate LGBT History month, Valentine’s Day and International Women’s Day.

During February, Artrix will be screening The Killing of Sister George and Battle of the Sexes as part of LGBT History month, aiming to promote equality, diversity and to raise awareness of matters affecting the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The 1968 feature film The Killing of Sister George will play at Artrix on Tuesday 13th February at 7.30pm and stars Beryl Reid and Susannah York. The film is rated 18 and Artrix is hosting a free LGBT networking event before the film from 6pm.

Battle of the Sexes plays at Artrix on Tuesday 6th, Monday 12th and Thursday 15th February at 7.30pm and Friday 9th February at 11am. telling of the rivalry between tennis players Billie Jean King and ex-men’s-champ Bobby Riggs the film is rated 12A. Tickets for screening of these films are £7 each or £6 each for over 60s, students and under 16s.

On February 14th, romantics are invited to bring loved ones along to Artrix for to enjoy a special Valentine’s Day screening of the 1945 film, Brief Encounter. Tickets for the 1pm matinee are £14, including afternoon tea after the screening and tickets for the 8.30pm screening are £20, including a glass of prosecco and tapas at 7.30pm before the film begins. Pre-booking is strongly advised.

International Women’s Day, taking place on Thursday 8th March, celebrates women and aims to press forward and progress gender parity and inclusivity. Artrix will be screening Suffragette on Friday 9th March at 11am as part of International Women’s Day events.

Suffragette recounts the early 20th Century growing suffragette movement and is rated 12A. Tickets are £7, or £6 for over 60s, students and under 16s.
