Betty does it Wright

Legendary soul singer to appear at the Drum.

One of the most talented vocalists of her generation, Betty Wright has had a notable career spanning over four decades. The singer/songwriter catapulted to fame in the 70s with her signature tune Clean Up Woman when she was only 17 years old. Since then she has continued to record chart-topping albums and has a repertoire of classic tunes which includes Tonight Is The Night, She’s Got Papers On Me, No Pain, No Gain and the stellar-hit Keep Love New.

With her powerful yet silky vocals, Betty’s tracks sound as fresh and awesome today as they did back in the day. Wright continued recording through the 90s and has become an icon for a new generation of singers from Angie Stone, Mary J Blige to Joss Stone and recent collaborations have seen her team up with the likes of The Roots, Lil’ Wayne and Snoop Dog.

Jennie Gentles, the venue’s Head of Marketing and Arts, said “The Drum is delighted to be hosting this prestigious artist and we’re really looking forward to having such an icon perform live on our stage. Betty Wright has penned so many classics and everyone knows at least one of her tunes so I hope she’s prepared for the audience to be singing along with her throughout the evening!”
