And nothing but the blues

There’s quality blues coming up at the Robin 2 from all aspects of the genre.

Wednesday 28th January sees the return of blues rock exponents Skinny Molly. Founded by ex-Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Mike Estes, the band have been exporting their variation on deep-fried Southern blues around the world for over ten years and their 2014 album Here For a Good Time showed them to be fine successors to the crown previously worn by such as the Allman Brothers Band and Este’s former colleagues.

The following night, Thursday 29th, has Robin favourites and local legends King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys playing. Veterans of too many gigs to recall, this is a band that truly need no introduction. If you’ve never seen their unique interpretation of swing, jie and just about everything else, it’s never too late to find out what’s made them an act that others fear to follow.

More exponents of the Southern blues style, albeit from closer to home, will be apeparing on Wednesday 4th February. Three-piece Crow Black Chicken hail from Ireland, with a sound that’s geographically closer to the Mason-Dixon Line. Their second album, Rumble Shake, was released in June 2014 and scored highly in the Irish charts with singer/guitarist Ali Clinton having recently recorded a solo EP.

Tickets £10

On Wednesday 11th February Willie & the Bandits make their Robin debut. Covering everything from blues to world and roots, the band’s slide guitar-driven performances have seen them tour with Deep Purple, Status Quo and Joe Bonamassa in addition to recording two highly-acclaimed albums.

Tickets £8

Finally, on Thursday 19th February another bunch of Robin regulars will be in town. More than 35 years since they got together to play a few gigs for their own enjoyment, the Blues Band are back, performing their usual set from their own extensive back catalogue plus classics from across the blues spectrum.
