Wimbledon bounces into action at Brindleyplace

Brindleyplace will be kicking off summer in style next week, screening Wimbledon live on its outdoor screen in Central Square.

Taking place between Monday 23rd June and Sunday 6th July, Wimbledon will see British champion Andy Murray compete to be named winner once again. Last year, thousands of people crammed into Central Square at Brindleyplace to watch the men’s and women’s finals, cheering on Murray and giving the estate its busiest two days since records began.

Lydia Ellis, marketing manager at Brindleyplace, said: “It seemed like the whole city came along to Brindleyplace last year – tennis fever was certainly at an all-time high! The way the Birmingham community got behind Andy Murraywas fantastic and I know that everyone has high hopes for him to do just as well at this year’s competition. This will be the second year that we’ve shown Wimbledon on the outdoor screen at Brindleyplace and it’s a great way to kick off summer in Birmingham.”

Considered to be the most prestigious and oldest tennis event in the world, Wimbledon remains one of the most popular sporting events that take place in Britain. Launched in 1877, the competition attracts around 500,000 spectators each year. Lydia added: “For those who didn’t manage to get a ticket to Wimbledon, our live screening is the perfect opportunity to make sure you’re up to date with all the latest scores, whether you’re catching a game in your lunch break or visiting Brindleyplace at the weekend with family and friends. Who needs Murray Mound when you’ve got the Brindleyplace Bump?”

The live screening of Wimbledon will be followed by the annual outdoor Film Festival at Brindleyplace which, this year, boasts a theme of 80s Vs 90s and will take place for one week between Monday 7th and Sunday 13th July.
