Keep Moseley Road Baths Open Day

The Friends of Moseley Road Baths urge local residents to visit the threatened building.

Moseley Road BathsKeep Moseley Road Baths Open Day takes place on Sunday, May 11th 2014 from 12:30pm-3:30pm. Organised by the Friends of Moseley Road Baths group, it’s an opportunity to look behind the scenes at the threatened Grade II* listed Moseley Road Baths in Balsall Heath, and for pool users and supporters to make their voices heard ahead of the local council elections on May 22nd in the campaign to save the building for swimming.

Candidates for the Balsall Heath, Sparkbrook and Moseley wards have been invited along so that they may see first-hand what an important facility Moseley Road Baths is, and how its planned closure in September 2015 will adversely affect the community and neighbourhood.

Keep Moseley Road Baths Open Day also provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the building’s history with access to normally closed areas such as the gala pool, private washing bath departments, laundry room and cold-water storage tank, as well as the boiler and filtration rooms. Additionally, Pool of Memories, the Friends’ recent book on the history of the baths, will be on sale. There’ll also be short verbal campaign updates at various set points throughout the afternoon and a banner and flag making workshop, aimed at both children and adults. Balsall Heath Local History Society will also be on hand to explain what activities they are undertaking this year and how people can get involved. Entrance to Keep Moseley Road Baths Open Day is free, and refreshments will be available in return for a small donation to the Friends of Moseley Road Baths.

Please note that Pool 2 will be open for public swimming from 8am until 12:30pm and we particularly encourage those who have never swum at Moseley Road Baths before to come along and enjoy a dip in this historic Edwardian pool.
