New books for Walsall

Dream opening for booksellers.

Local readers now have a greater choice of reading material as two young entrepreneurs are aiming to turn what could have been a tragedy into the basis of a new business venture. But they’re calling on the area’s book lovers to help their enterprise to work.

Southcart Books is the brainchild of Walsall-based book enthusiasts Scott Southey and Amy Carter, who had previously been selling online. However, after Amy almost died in January from a burst appendix they decided to in Scott’s words, “Follow our dreams.”

The result has been the opening of Walsall’s first independent book shop for many years. Based in a grade II listed building on Lower Hall Lane in the town centre, Southcart will be selling new, used and antique books as well as holding community events such as book signings and readings.

Scot said of the venture, “As the only independent bookshop in Walsall we hope to have something to offer the local community, but to make this work we’ll need as much help as possible.”

The grand opening of the shop will take place on Monday 5th May at Southcart Books, 20-21 Lower Hall Lane, Walsall. For more information call Scott on 07528 144837.
