There’s a strong veterans line-up this week.

On Tuesday one of the Midlands’ shining stars is at the Robin once more. Ian Parker has been around for a long time and this month marks the tenth anniversary of his debut album, Inside. Since then he’s worked solo and with bands, acoustic and electric, released a string of studio and live albums and built up a reputation as a solid live performer. His latest project is called Kinver, and their album The Stone House was released in August.

Wednesday sees another regular visitor to the Robin in the shape of Hazel O’Connor, best known for her starring role in the 1980 film Breaking Glass. The role won her awards and a BAFTA nomination, the soundtrack album went double platinum and although she hasn’t achieved that level of success since, Hazel has passed the time acting on TV and in theatre as well as recording a series of albums and touring on her own and as part of eighties packages.

There’s another tried and tested figure on stage on Thursday. Walter Trout began his career as a sideman to such artists as John Lee Hooker and John Mayall as well as playing with Canned Heat. He then formed his own band, releasing the debut album Life in the Jungle in 1990, and since then has recorded numerous highly-regarded albums and toured the world. His latest release, Luther’s Blues, is a tribute to Luther Allison.

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel will be appearing on Saturday.  One of the most highly-regarded British songwriters of all, Steve was responsible for some of the finest pop songs ever written. Following a tour around the festivals of Europe, a show featuring songs from every one of his studio albums is promised.

On Sunday afternoon there’s the second monthly final of the Robin/M2 Studios Live Band of the year competition. Already confirmed are Mokats, Rosary and The Remedy.

Then on Sunday evening Francis Dunnery will be performing. After coming to prominence with It Bites, he embarked on a solo career initially as a prog rocker of renown, performing and working on both sides of the Atlantic in a variety of musical styles.  His latest album, Frankenstein Monster, was released earlier this month.
