Blues in the hat

Blues beat Lincoln City in the FA Cup. Andy Munro is happy.

A much-changed side saw off a plucky Lincoln outfit who decided to play their normal line-up as opposed to a far below full-strength Blues.

Blues must have broken a record or two by scoring just a few seconds of kick-off when, following a smart pass from Scott Taylor, the talent of Ayumu Yokoyama did the rest. However, the young Japanese prospect is still work in progress and was taken off after an hour.

The new central midfield pairing of Marc Leonard and Luke Harris was solid and business-like whilst Lyndon Dykes plugged away behind the ever willing Juke. The latter was very unlucky not to score from a header that was brilliantly saved by the opposition keeper.

Other solid performers included Taylor Gardner-Hickman who was as reliable as ever, as was the returning Alfons Sampsted. However, the star of the whole show was Christoph Klarer who, despite being Blues’ only central defender on the pitch, was impressively dominant in the back four.

The icing on the cake came from Dykes with a superb volley that will do his confidence the world of good. Blues did suffer a bit of a scare when they conceded a very late and very dubious penalty but managed to see out the game in the end,

A Premier League club at St. Andrews would be nice in the fourth round.
