Lovebrum stirs up support with Curry King event

Curry competition to raise funds for Birmingham charity.

Birmingham charity, LoveBrum, is hosting its flagship event, the Curry King of Birmingham, next month in collaboration with Mahirs Experience and is promising an evening of naan-stop fun and flavour for guests.

The black-tie fundraising event, which will take place on Friday 18th October at Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens, will see curry connoisseurs turn up the heat to be crowned the city’s ultimate Curry King or Queen.

Birmingham’s business community are invited to enter a team to season the perfect curry, working alongside a professional chef from the team at Mahirs Experience to cook the most delectable curry. The tough job of awarding the winners will fall to the panel of expert judges from Birmingham’s restaurant and hospitality scene including culinary King Glynn Purnell from Purnells, Anita Champaneri MD of Delicious PR, creative director of Pushkar Cocktail Bar and Dining, Rai Singh, Harriet Giles from Dishoom and self-confessed curry-holic Guranisha Shergill from BBC Asian Network.

After tasting and scoring each dish, the highest-scoring team will be crowned the prestigious title of ‘Curry King of Birmingham.’ The team with the lowest score will receive a humorous wooden spoon prize.

LoveBrum’s mission is to raise money to support grassroots initiative that work diligently to improve lives across Birmingham and was set up to unearth hidden gem projects across the city. Every month, members vote to fund a local cause that’s in need of support. The Curry King of Birmingham event aims to rally Birmingham’s business community in support of these local charities that make a significant impact, but often go unnoticed.

Tim Andrews, co-founder of LoveBrum said: “This event not only supports a great cause, but will provide businesses with the opportunity to network, collaborate and showcase Birmingham’s pride and culinary talent. Funds raised will directly benefit local charities that play an imperative role in supporting and funding the serious challenges the city faces.

“As curry capital of the country, there will no doubt be some friendly competition amongst curry-lovers who are keen to showcase their skills – hopefully it won’t get too spicy!”

Abby Goldie from EventBabs says, “Tickets for Curry King of Birmingham are on sale, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to be crowned king or queen of the curry capital, please get involved with this great cause!”
