Blues are beaten by Southampton, leaving Andy Munro starting to worry.
Southampton had more shots and more of the play at St Andrews but were as shaky at the back as Blues were themselves. So there were always going to be goals and so it proved.
In fairness to the home side it was always going to be difficult with ten men after a sending off which seemed a gross miscarriage of justice. For long periods the Saints bossed possession but Blues always looked dangerous on the break and Koji Myoshi’s goal was taken superbly, as was the one by Jay Stansfield, well deserved after a great solo run. This was a goal that should give him confidence to start getting regularly on the scoresheet again
Unfortunately we were shaky defensively, especially down our left with Lee Buchanan too often outflanked, not helped by the poor support from Jordan James who was too casual in his defensive duties. To add to that failing Dion Sanderson and Emanuel Aiwu (or should that be AWOL?) too often lost track of the Saints attackers.
Given other results Blues escape being in the bottom three by almost fractional goal difference and if they don’t buck up very quickly that’s exactly where they will find themselves.
So much for a new dawn, with our lowly position probably mainly thanks to one of TV’s latest footie pundits. One can only hope for a miraculous return from the influential and much-missed Tony Mowbray.
