Kings Heath bookshop helping new writers

The Heath Bookshop announce Writing Bursary as part of their Literature and Music Festival.

The Heath Bookshop in Kings Heath are joining forces with award-winning author Michel Faber to host an Advanced Writing Workshop as part of The Heath Bookshop Literature and Music Festival. As part of their commitment to support writers through the Festival, The Heath Bookshop, with support from Writing West Midlands, are offering a Bursary to support an individual writer to attend the workshop.

Aimed at individuals who have been writing for some time, the Advanced Writing Workshop is an opportunity to receive feedback from Michel Faber, an award-winning author of seven novels, three short-story collections and a poetry book. Michel visited The Heath Bookshop last year to discuss his non-fiction book Listen, which delved into how and why we listen to music, the perfect read ahead of The Heath Bookshop’s inaugural Literature and Music Festival that runs from 18th- 21th April.

Catherine and Claire, co-owners at The Heath Bookshop said: “We are thrilled that Michel is delivering an Advanced Writing Workshop as part of our Literature and Music Festival, it really is a once in a lifetime chance for writers to receive personalised feedback from such an acclaimed writer.

“As an independent bookshop we are keen to support and champion the writing community as much as possible, from first time writers through to established authors and so we are so pleased that as part of our Festival we can offer a Bursary to a writer to be able to develop their practice. Keep your eyes peeled for our full programme coming soon, we can’t wait to share it.”

Writers interested in applying for the Bursary should submit no more than 2,000 words by 29th February to bursary@theheathbookshop.co.uk The full criteria can be found here. Submissions will be reviewed by Writing West Midlands.

The Literature and Music Festival, led by The Heath Bookshop along with partners the Hare & Hounds and children’s bookshop How Brave is the Wren is supported using public funding by National Lottery through Arts Council England. The Festival will feature author events for young and old, music events and new artistic commissions that celebrate the connections between literature and music through spoken word, film, dance and sound all taking place from 18th–21st April.

The full programme will be released at the start of March, and for more information and to keep up-to-date on events at The Heath Bookshop follow The Heath Bookshop on Facebook and Instagram.
