Gilbert & Sullivan for Old Rep

Rare opportunity to see Birmingham Savoyards perform The Sorcerer.

The Birmingham Savoyards are staging the rarely performed Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer at the lovely Old Rep theatre in Station Street in Birmingham from Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th March. The Sorcerer showcases Gilbert at his topsy-turvy best with sumptuous music from Sullivan that will set your toes tapping! It tells the tale of Alexis, who is so in love with his bride to be, Aline, that he wants the whole village to experience these happy feelings. Accordingly he enlists the help of ‘Family Sorcerers’ JW Wells & Co. to administer a love potion to the entire village (via the teapot at the village fete) and soon mayhem ensues!

The Savoyards will be joined this year by Elissa Street (pictured) playing the part of Aline. Elissa is currently undertaking postgraduate studies in vocal performance and musicology at the University of Birmingham before taking up a place at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire next September. She was awarded Best Female Voice at last summer’s Gilbert & Sullivan UNIFest competition at the (29th) International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton and is looking forward to making her debut with The Birmingham Savoyards at the historic Old Rep Theatre.

The Sorcerer runs from Wednesday March 6th to Friday March 8th at the Old Rep Theatre Station Street. Tickets are priced at £17 and £18 and are available from the Old Rep Box Office on 0121 359 9444 or book online at oldreptheatre.co.uk.
