Comedy event links with homeless charity

Belly Laughs is returning to Birmingham to support SIFA Fireside.

Belly Laughs 2023 included four cities, 100 comedians and 117 gigs. There were 5,046 tickets sold, £33,000 raised for local charities and £100,000 went into local businesses.

This January, Belly Laughs will be returning to Birmingham for one month only to support SIFA Fireside, the Birmingham charity that supports people facing or at risk of homelessness. This year, there are 27 venues taking part in the city hosting a total of 28 nights. The tour is expected to raise around £20,000 for SIFA Fireside and an estimated £50,000 for the Birmingham hospitality industry.

Throughout the month of January, you can enjoy the delicious combination of food and comedy whilst raising much-needed funds for local homelessness support service SIFA Fireside. Belly Laughs is returning to Brum for this January 2024, bringing people together through comedy and food in the most miserable month of the year.

The Belly Laughs past gigs have seen contributions from local comedians and familiar faces including Jon Richardson, Rosie Jones, Jayde Adams and Nish Kumar, and 2024 promises to be business as usual!

Each ticket includes a night of comedy from a surprise potluck comedian and food and/or drinks from Birmingham’s favourite venues. You could take your pick from an indulgent Buttermilk fried chicken burger from Yardbirds, to some amazing vegan food from BA-HA at The Rainbow in Digbeth or an intimate dedicated meal cooked by Kaye Winwood at Gulp, tucked away in the Jewellery Quarter.

£10 from each ticket will go to support SIFA Fireside, with all other sales proceeds going to the host venue to help through a traditionally quiet month for the hospitality scene.

Every gig is unique, but one thing remains the same. You’ll be fed and watered, you’ll laugh and you’ll be supporting a good cause. All organisers and comedians donate their time for Belly Laughs.

Belly Laughs’ team said: “We do stuff in that area where food, comedy and doing good stuff for others meets. We’re really excited to be spreading our wings for a second year and always blown away by people’s generosity at these events and am sure we can raise some money for SIFA Fireside whilst having a bit of a laugh at the same time”.

This year’s chosen charity is SIFA Fireside, a charity that supports vulnerable and at-risk individuals. These include adults experiencing homelessness, escaping domestic abuse, adults with complex needs and people who require support after leaving prison. They want to build a just society where socially excluded people are supported and empowered to build sustainable, independent lives. Their projects not only address the symptoms of homelessness but also the underlying reasons why people are forced onto the streets.”
