RIP Trevor

Andy Munro pays tribute to Trevor Francis.

The football world was united in shock at the untimely death of Trevor Francis. Always a gentleman, he was the epitome of what the perfect footballer should be, both on and off the field.

My two abiding memories of Trevor were firstly his four goals in a match during his debut season and secondly, and strangely, the lonely figure that he cut when we failed to win the play off final for the Premier League – a great player who was probably too nice for management.

Trevor’s biggest assets were his acceleration over the vital first few yards, and of course his goalscoring talent. Gone but never to be forgotten and there could be no finer accolade than to have a stand at St Andrews named after him.
