Andy Munro isn’t impressed as Blues go down to Blackpool.

To hammer home the fruit salad comparison, this was the veritable banana skin waiting to happen. Blues might have had seven shots to Blackpool’s two but four of them came in a one-minute goalmouth scramble.

Make no mistake, this was a very ordinary Blackpool side, although I suppose that they are fighting for their lives. Uninspiring though they were, Blues should have won this at a canter but were undone by an horrific mistake from Kevin Long so maybe his initial detractors might be right after all. Tahith Chong, Jobe Bellingham and Hannibal Mejbri were probably the pick of Blues players but were inexplicably hooked for uninspiring replacements in the form of Troy Deeney and Jordan Graham, who did the opposite of setting the world on fire. In defence, Marc Roberts was back to the agricultural stuff, Auston Trusty looked uncomfortable at full-back, too often giving the opposition winger too much room whilst behind them Neal Etheridge was as nervous as a kitten with frequent rushes of blood to the head and an abysmal level of distribution which would put John Ruddy in the Beckenbauer class.

Either way, we are safe so thoughts turn to next season, where our high earners need to take a hefty wage cut or be released/shipped out. If we are still in the footballing ‘poor house’ (and I hope we aren’t) then a hefty reduction in even heftier wage earners might still might buy us somebody with pace up front, particularly if our scouting network take a trawl of the lower reaches. At the same time it ought to give us the chance to give our promising youngsters more opportunities.
