Birmingham County FA success at Planet Mark Awards.

Birmingham County FA’s sustainability programme, Save Today, Play Tomorrow, has been named as the winner of the Sustainability Campaign sponsored by Fenix Carbon Award at The Planet Mark Awards 2022.

On Thursday 19th January Birmingham County FA attended The Planet Mark Awards 2022 at The Royal Institution of Great Britain in London, a ceremony that each year shines a light on member companies and individuals that have gone above and beyond to maximise their sustainability impact.

The annual awards are sponsored by Prologis UK and offer a fantastic opportunity for Planet Mark members to celebrate and be recognised for the amazing work they are doing, from carbon reduction and supply chain engagement to social responsibility.

Judged by a panel of hand-picked sustainability experts, each award is based on a robust criterion allowing members to communicate their environmental and social achievements with confidence and authenticity. There were 12 awards handed out across four categories – Engage, Measure, Communicate and Overall on the evening, with Birmingham County FA shortlisted in the Communicate category.

Birmingham CFA was announced as the winner of the Sustainability Campaign sponsored by Fenix Carbon Award at the ceremony for its Save Today, Play Tomorrow programme.

Richard Lindsay, Birmingham CFA Sustainability & Business Insights Manager, said: “We would like to thank Planet Mark and their panel of expert judges for selecting Save Today, Play Tomorrow as the winner of this award.

“It is a fantastic achievement and clearly demonstrates the role that governing bodies and those involved in football at all levels can play in tackling the climate crisis, reducing its carbon impacts and protecting our beautiful game for future generations to enjoy.

“We are very much at the start of our sustainability journey and recognise the urgent need for change, but the engagement and action being undertaken by grassroots football is hugely inspiring and continually motivates us to reach our ambitious goal of a low-carbon game.”

As a governing body, Birmingham County FA recognises the need to take action now to ensure the beautiful game significantly reduces its environmental impact, whilst helping to educate those involved in football at all levels to make informed decisions that will shape how much future generations will be able to enjoy the game.

Save Today, Play Tomorrow is a series of planned initiatives, strategic partnerships and infrastructure investment that fall under four key themes – health and wellbeing, positive education, climate action and reconnecting football with nature.
