Hull City beat Blues with Andy Munro asking a few questions.
As a Blues fan, this one-nil defeat was one to forget, with a lacklustre team making the visitors look like world=beaters. We certainly didn’t deserve anything from the game but the Hull winner was preventable and caused by a mistake and generally poor display by Juninho Bacuna.
In fact, Neil Ruddy, Auston Trusty and Maxime Colin apart, it was a poor display all round. At times like this, it is easy to point the finger at the manager, who has done well in difficult circumstances.
Yet he has to be questioned on a number of issues. Why play exactly the same team who looked tired and off the pace at Burnley? Why persist in playing Tahith Chong up front when he is never going to be an effective central striker? Why bring on the Juke alongside the too-similar Troy Deeney instead of bringing on a different (if limited) option in Jonathan Leko? Why persist for too long playing Hannibal Mejbri and Emmanuel Longelo down our left side when their naivety meant they were out=manoeuvred time and time again?
Finally, the absence of both Scott Hogan, who’s in the last year of his contract, and the sought-after George Hall has to be a worry, with the Chinese undoubtedly looking to cash in whilst the going is good.
Next up are an in-form Middlesbrough side, which may result in another wheel coming off the Blues ‘revival’.
