Vic Evans celebration at Silvershine Jazz Club.
Jazz fans will be able to take place in a celebration of the life of Victor ‘Vic’ Evans at a benefit gig to support his family on Friday 16 th December.
Vic, longtime singer with the legendary Andy Hamilton’s Blue Notes, died on 3rd November aged 90. He was singing almost to the end and in addition to dealing with their loss his family have discovered that the funeral plan they paid into has failed, leaving them with £5,000 pounds to find for his funeral in January 2023.
Over the years playing with Andy Hamilton and the Blue Notes and since Andy’s death continuing at the Silvershine Jazz Club despite a dementia diagnosis, Vic sang with many visiting jazz musicians including recently Xhosa Cole and Tony Kofi. During lockdown in 2021 Birmingham Jazz recorded him with the Blue Notes at Sansom Studios as part of an Arts Council-funded project.
The gig, to take place at Corks Club in Bearwood, will feature the Blue Notes plus guest players to be announced nearer the time.
At the gig as well as some great music there will be opportunities to support the family by bidding in an auction or by direct donation. Brian Homer has created a booklet of his pictures of Vic and copies will be for sale with proceeds going to the family.
More information on the gig will be on the Silvershine website
If you can’t make the gig there are still things you can do to support the family.
