Sky blue not Mr Blue Sky

Andy Munro shudders as Blues go down to Coventry.

Let’s not beat about the bush, this was a disastrous defeat after leading two-nil with half-time looming. To be two up with five minutes left until the break then going in level was inexcusable.

I’ve been a big fan of Lee Bowyer – his heart’s in the right place, he’s got no money to spend and so on – but I have to say that I’m starting to have my doubts. Playing three at the back without proper wingbacks is inviting trouble. This also wastes the talent of our most exceptional player, albeit a loanee, in the shape of Onel Hernandez. Also, not playing Jordan Graham and persisting with an out of form, overpaid player like Scott Hogan just doesn’t make sense.

Then bringing on two ponderous centre=forwards in the form of both the Juke and Troy Deeney for the second game in a row smacked of desperation. The fact that the fourth, killer goal was scored by the smug ex-Villa man (again for the second time this week) Callum O’Hare just rubbed salt in the wound. The one bright spot was another excellent performance by Nico Gordon but the fact remains that we still need a point to be safe and I wouldn’t bet on us getting it given our defensive frailties.

Maybe a phone call to a certain Mr S. Dyche beckons?
