Blues rarely get beaten at Ashton Gate and this week was no exception as the tam garnered three vital points which must surely mean we can now relax and enjoy our attacking talents rather than looking over our shoulder yet again at the end of the season.
If Lee Bowyer has his shortcomings it can’t be a failure to take risks. Playing a back three which included Marc Roberts returning straight into the team after a lengthy injury spell and a young rookie beside him in the shape of Nico Gordon proved this. Alongside the back three were two wingers and with two up front, Ivan Sunjic and Gary Gardner had to earn heir corn in winning a midfield battle, leaving Juninho Bacuna to do the creative stuff.
However, we were worthy of the half-time two-nil lead but the team typically conceded a soft goal at the start of the second half to ensure the usual nerve-jangling experience that Blues fans frequently suffer.
Yet at the end of the game we were worthy winners and it was not only good to see Tahith Chong net at last but also Nico Gordon top an excellent defensive performance with a goal. Lyle Taylor also shouldn’t be forgotten for a peerless performance yet again up front with only a goal to his name missing from an almost complete performance.
Here’s hoping that we can not only enjoy an entertaining end to the season but the chance to blood more youngsters like Gordon.
