Midland Arts Centre announces Christmas line-up

MAC makes Christmas merry and bright with festive event line-up.

Midlands Arts Centre is getting into the festive spirit, with the announcement of its packed programme of events this Christmas. MAC has something for everyone: from family-friendly theatre and special screenings of classic festive TV favourites from the 70s; to Christmas comedy from Britain’s Got Talent favourite, Barbara Nice. What’s more, in line with the season of giving, MAC has launched its Every Child Campaign, to ensure no-one has to miss out on the magic of Christmas.

Putting the focus of festivities on family fun, MAC will be bringing delights to the stage and screen, suitable for all: from Slot Machine Theatre’s heart-warming One Snowy Night, based on the children’s book by Nick Butterworth, with stunning puppetry and a host of sing-along songs; to a special screening of The Muppets Christmas Carol, with audience participation actively encouraged.

The show doesn’t stop there either, with the return of everyone’s favourite housewife, Barbara Nice. The Britain’s Got Talent star will be bringing the comedy corkers with her own one-woman show Barbara Nice’s Christmas Crackers.

If TV treats are high up on your Christmas list, MAC also has you covered. Birmingham-based archivists Kaleidoscope have dusted down its seasonal highlights with special Christmas episodes of The Liver Birds, The Val Doonican Show and the long-running Granada TV weekday afternoon series Crown Court.

In addition, MAC is also sharing the joy far and wide this season, with the launch of its ‘Every Child Campaign’: a pay-it-forward scheme that it hopes will help to fund theatre tickets for over 200 vulnerable children, so no-one has to miss out on festive fun.

By giving as little as £5, it can pay for a child to experience the charming Christmas show, One Snowy Night. So far, thanks to its generous supporters, MAC has been able to give tickets to local domestic abuse charities, outreach centres and children’s charities such as Barnados Birmingham.

Deborah Kermode, Chief Executive & Artistic Director at MAC, is looking forward to unlocking the magic of Christmas for December. She comments: “Christmas is a magical time at MAC, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience a full host of festivities in December once more. This time of year is all about coming together as a community, and it is a huge honour that so many choose to create their cherished memories with us.

“With activities that the whole family can enjoy together, as well as events for our senior audiences, who might be looking for company over the Christmas period, and our ‘Every Child Campaign’, we are so proud to be able to bring cheer to so many.”
