The bell tolls for Dong

Most Blues fans will feel like singing a footballing version of “Ding Dong the wicked witch is dead” as this most vilified of CEOs (aka Xuandong Ren) departs. Yet it is Wizard of Oz fantasy land to expect the ownership issues to go away with his departure. It might, in fact, work the other way with the controlling Chinese footballing junta now feeling that they’ve lost face and thereby becoming even more remote from the fanbase.

Would it be too much to ask for them to install somebody with footballing nous and some local connections? Unfortunately I think we all know the likely answer to that one. Still, hope springs eternal and, let’s face it, a stuffed panda could do a better job than the outgoing chief executive officer of Birmingham City FC.
