Birmingham hospitals charity bring festive joy home

Virtual concert to bring Christmas cheer straight into homes.

With lockdown restrictions still in place up in the lead-up to Christmas, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals Charity is looking to beam some festive joy straight into local households this December, with its Virtual Christmas Concert.

This specially-recorded entertainment extravaganza will be taking place on Thursday 10 December, at 7pm, with tickets costing just £10 per household, and all proceeds from the sales will go towards supporting the work of the NHS heroes at the two hospitals. If concert-goers can’t make that date, not to worry, the special show will be available to watch on demand until Sunday 20th December.

Taking centre stage will be a talented line-up of performers, including star of Britain’s Got Talent, Connie Talbot, concert regulars the School of Theatre Excellence, vocalist for UB40, Matt Hoy, winners of BBC’s The Naked Choir, Sons of Pitches, and local legend and long-time supporter of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Dame Julie Walters, who will doing a very special Christmas carol reading.

The charity’s Annual Christmas Concert has been running for eleven years, and is normally hosted in the magical surroundings of St Martin’s in the Bullring. Due to COVID-19, the charity decided to make the event virtual, so the public can join in the festivities from the comfort of their own home.

Louise McCathie, Director of Fundraising at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals Charity, said: “This is our eleventh Christmas Concert, and it has become quite the jewel in our events calendar. Although we couldn’t come together as we normally would, we didn’t want the pandemic to stop us from spreading a little festive joy, especially at a time when we could all do with a little lift in spirits!

“We’re so thrilled to have such a fantastic line-up of performers who have so generously given us their time. I’d urge people to grab a mince pie and some mulled wine, and join us on the night! Not only will it be fabulously entertaining, it will also help us raise vital funds to support the care of our patients who need us at this critical time, and those who will need our care in the future.”

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals Charity’s Virtual Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday 10 December, between 7pm and 8pm. Tickets cost £10 per household, which can be bought from either the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity website: bch.org.uk/concert or the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity website. People will also be able to donate on the day by texting CONCERT to 70450 to donate £5 (terms and conditions apply).
