School’s still not out

Birmingham Rockschool keeps local music students performing together.

Birmingham’s very own School Of Rock are keeping students performing together, even through the lockdown which forced the closure of their studio. Birmingham Rockschool is a family business run by mother and daughter Sharon and Gemma Lawler, and has been running in the south of Birmingham for over twelve years, delivering fun performance-based music lessons from their custom built studio in Kings Norton.

The music school transitioned to a fully online experience three weeks ago, and they have been keeping their students of all ages involved in the music community with their unique online Digital Jam sessions.

33 students of mixed abilities aged between 6 and 53, contributed to this week’s massive Digital Jam session of the title song from the 2003 hit Jack Black film School Of Rock, with the help of four tutors and even a cameo from the business directors themselves!

Birmingham Rockschool Co-Owner and Director Gemma Lawler says “We are so proud of our fantastic Rockschool community – both here in Birmingham, and all over the web – YOU ROCK! This is our second Digital Jam, and more are planned over the coming weeks!

“The videos are put together by our fantastic drum tutor and videographer Adam Harris of Seventh Sky Media – his average turnaround has been only 48 hours from student submissions to getting the video live – it’s a real team effort and we’re thrilled to be able to give our students and their families something positive to focus on in these uncertain times”

For more information, or to get involved and book an online music lesson in guitar, bass, drums, vocals or keyboards, contact Info@Birminghamrockschool.com or call Sharon on 07912 647260. All ages and abilities are welcome – from anywhere in the world, and they are offering a free thirty minute trial session that can be booked at www.BirminghamRockschool.com.
