Andy Munro enjoys, if that’s the word, Blues’ dramatic FA Cup win over Coventry City.
Blues certainly tested the blood pressure of their fans to overcoming a decent Coventry side at the death thanks to late goals and penalties. In fact, it was only until the Juke and Bela came on that we looked consistently dangerous.
Montero was decent in a sporadic way but our lack of threat up front in the first half particularly handed the initiative to ‘visiting’ Coventry. Without Jake Clarke-Salter at the back we were also caught out for pace at the back a few times although the Blues star man had to be the strong and dominant Wes Harding who continually overlapped and had a hand in one of the goals.
Of the two youngsters Concannon looked lightweight and ineffective with Boyd-Munce looking a lot more of a likely lad despite twice ballooning his shots over the bar. Still, it was nice to get through and obviously Camp was the hero and deserves massive credit. The victory came at a cost with McEachran looking badly injured which again highlights the stupidity of loaning out Davies when Mrabti and Crowley are injured. Also, of course, there are probably at least four first teamers who have had two hours hectic football and only three days to get over it – thanks Chairman Dong.
Thanks to Blues’ penny inching in not opening the Tilton the disparate groups of Blues fans around the Kop were generally outsung by the buoyant Sky Blue fans. In my case, away from the Tilton and on the part of the Kop nearest to the Gil Merrick Stand, I was surrounded by Blues’ apprentice hooligans who all looked and sounded like they were about twelve as they spent most of the time giving it large (although perhaps ‘medium’ might be a better description) to the Sky Blue contingent.
