Transatlantic dates to help mark orchestra’s centenary.
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will visit the United States this October for its first coast-to-coast tour in 22 years, including two concerts at Carnegie Hall, New York.
CBSO Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will lead programmes including works by Debussy, Ravel and Bartok as well as
Thomas Adès’ Angel Symphony will be performed following its premiere by the CBSO in Birmingham this May.
The new work, which draws inspiration from Adès’ hit opera The Exterminating Angel, was specially commissioned by the CBSO to mark the orchestra’s centenary celebrations this year.
The orchestra will present concerts at Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa (11nd October), Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara (13th October), the Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor (22nd October) and Carnegie Hall in New York (23rd & 24th October), with further dates at several of America’s foremost venues to be announced.
