The charity’s Hospice at Home nurses provide compassionate care to people who are at the very end stage of their illness, as well as support families and loved ones too. This Christmas, they will be helping local people to stay at home by providing the expert care and support they need to avoid unnecessary and sometimes distressing hospital admissions.
It will cost over £28,000 to provide Hospice at Home care this December – 64 per cent of which must be raised through generous voluntary donations.
Charlotte Dowling, corporate and community fundraising manager at Birmingham St Mary’s, said: “Whether your sweater sings Rockin’ Robin or is one your nan knitted, by wearing your Christmas jumper, you will be helping local people to spend their Christmas in comfort and surrounded by the ones they love.
“Taking part is really easy – simply wear your favourite Christmas jumper on Friday 6th December and make a donation to the Hospice online. You can do it at work, at home, at school or even down the pub – wherever you choose, it’s a great way to enjoy some festive fun whilst doing some good over the Christmas period.
“For those of you who haven’t got a festive sweater, we have seventeen charity shops across Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull where you’ll be able to pick up a fantastic knit at a bargain price.”
Christmas Jumper Day is part of Birmingham St Mary’s Care at Christmas campaign – a festive appeal which aims to boost support for the charity leading up to and over the Christmas period. This year, Care at Christmas will be extra special as it will help raise much-needed funds during the charity’s fortieth anniversary year.
