Andy Munro looks ahead a bit bewildered to Blues’ big kick-off on Saturday.
There’s some strange player-related happenings down the Blues (not for the first time) that I can’t explain. Here’s the reasons why….
Blues have decided to play wing backs and bearing in mind they already have two wingers in Maghoma and Mrabti (who may be superfluous to this new system), they are apparently looking to sign another wideman. It seems strange to me.
With Che Adams gone, the squad is already short of proven forwards so they announce that as soon as they’ve signed somebody in that position then Isaac Vassell is surplus to requirements.
In my view we need to keep Vassell, as well as sign another forward. In fact, he showed flashes of his old form in the friendlies and the announcement of his impending departure is not only demotivating and disrespectful to the player, he is just the sort who will come back to haunt us.
We sign two players from the Spanish equivalent of the Wheeltappers and Shunters League and then immediately loan out one of them, a 28 year old, back to his Spanish club. To me, he’s either good enough to keep at St Andrews or just not good enough and at 28 he’s hardly a prospect. It seems strange to me.
We have two first team keepers in Lee Camp and David Stockdale plus at least three young keepers who are being loaned out to get game opportunity. So, we sign a Real Madrid youth keeper on loan to make it six. It seems strange to me.
Rumour has it that all the new players signed so far this summer have been sourced through one agent. Haven’t we heard that before somewhere?
Now maybe Pep and Co are (if you’ll excuse the pun) being forced into Poundland territory because of the Chinese owners but we can only hope that this all works out well – which I doubt – and Blues become the Spanish equivalent of the Portuguese footballing revolution down at Wolverhampton.
