Insomnia Gaming Festival returns this week

NEC to host UK’s biggest gaming event again.

Gamers across the country are getting their heads in the game, as the UK’s biggest gaming festival is back this week! Following its record-breaking success in April, Insomnia will be heating up the Bank Holiday, with four days of non-stop gaming this long weekend.

Players will be answering the Call of Duty to Overwatch the gaming event of the summer, rounding off the holiday season in style. With everything from the latest in VR technology for the tech-savvy to try to the old school arcade games in the Retro Zone, the biggest LAN party the UK has ever seen, the sold-out return of The World Famous Pub Quiz and the Battle Royale Zone, with players going head-to-head to win prizes worth up to £1,000; this is set to be unmissable.

Over 40,000 people attended April’s Insomnia festival and August is expected to attract even more from across the country. Those in attendance will be joined by famous faces as everyone’s favourite YouTubers will be available to snap selfies, chat tactics and answer any questions fans have. From Call Me Kevin and Jack Sucks at Life, to Dangthatsalongname and Seapeekay; the stars of the screen will be available throughout the weekend for meet-and-greets.

From meet-ups to live video games, attendees will also have the chance to play a part The Dark Room, a live-action video game that plays out on stage. The Dark Room is the world’s only live-action text adventure comedy show, and it will be returning to the NEC, armed with all-new levels, new hazards, and new Darrens…

The biggest names in games will be on hand, too. Nintendo will be in the Expo zone, meaning fans can get hands-on with Pokémon Sword, Pokémon Shield, Luigi’s Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and more. Meanwhile, the Ubisoft Experience will bring gamers together to discover new games, meet the teams and developers, learn more about the games and, most of all, share their passion with the rest of the community.

Phil Crawford, part of the organising body for Insomnia, said: “Insomnia65 is going to be the best one yet; we’ve got everyone’s favourites returning and the four days are sure to be a gamer’s dream. With everything from the retro arcade games of yesteryear to the state-of-the-art AR tech of tomorrow, and a chance to see the scenes from the screen brought to life, i65 will have must-see stage shows and classic table-top RPG, through to creative cosplay and the latest indie releases.

“We’re always so proud of Insomnia, as it showcases everything that’s great about the gaming community. i65 will give gamers a chance to meet like-minded people off-screen and experience the best of contemporary and old-school gaming. We can’t wait for the fun to start all over again this week!”
