Falcon flying high in small business awards.
A Bromsgrove firm has floored the competition after being named Britain’s Small Family Business of the Year.
Staff at family-run Falcon Contract Flooring scooped the top accolade in their category at the national Family Business United awards in London despite being up against firms with up to 500 employees.
The company supplies and fits flooring from carpets to vinyl and everything in between at commercial level and in recent years has landed some huge contracts including being the preferred supplier for the Premier Inn and Travelodge hotel chains.
It also provides high quality flooring for premises from children’s nurseries to hospitals – a huge achievement having been started by the Hassall family in the 1980s with just two men and a van.
Delighted bosses returned with the trophy after a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Mayfair Hotel.
CEO Charles Hallsall said Falcon, who are based on the Saxon Business Park but recently acquired a second site in the town as business expanded, treated staff to a night out at the ceremony. He admits winning came as an “absolute shock”.
Charles said: “Winning the award for Britain’s Small Family Business of the Year was an incredibly proud moment and an absolute shock. We all work hard as a team to make Falcon a success and it means the world to us that this has been nationally recognised.”
Charles, 33, added: “It’s not the first time we have won an award but this is definitely the best feeling. Last time I received the Entrepreneur of the Year but, with our emphasis at Falcon being very much on the team, I am thrilled that everyone has been recognised this time.”
The team, including several family members who work for the firm, received the glass trophy and certificate from Ben Fowler of Western Pension Solutions to rapturous applause.
Falcon was recognised for its’ refreshing and innovative contribution to the world of family businesses as well as its’ ability to win and sustain significant orders.
The award comes at an exciting time for the company which is about to expand with new customer bases overseas in Europe and the United States.
