Moseley Folk & Arts Festival programme announced

Name change reflects wide range of events for 2019.

Moseley Folk & Arts Festival is set to return to the beautiful Moseley Park in 2019 from 30th August to 1st September. Every year people from across Birmingham and beyond flock to the park to witness a healthy mix of traditional, contemporary and downright experimental Folk, World and Roots music.

This year will be the fourteenth edition of the festival, which showcases unsigned acts amongst well-established international artists, making for a truly exciting bill. In recognition of all the other non-musical entertainment featured across the weekend, organisers have changed the name of the festival to Moseley Folk & Arts.

For 2019 you can not only expect the usual high calibre of music, showcasing the best in folk, world, roots and Americana but also a rich programme of arts & crafts, comedy & cabaret, poetry & literature and talks & debate.

BBC 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie will be giving a talk about his Sunday Times Bestseller A Long Walk From Jarrow: A Journey Through Britain Then and Now, dubbed by The Guardian as “a reaffirmation of the role of the personal within the political, and a rallying call for anyone stirred by the story of Jarrow”.

Stuart will also lead a Q&A with the undisputed queen of folk and political song, Peggy Seeger. This intimate event will have Peggy answering questions about her journey into Folk music, becoming a singer-songwriter, feminist, icon and muse.

Steve Crossman, co-producer of The Hurricane Tapes will also be giving a talk at the festival. The Hurricane Tapes is an investigative podcast about American boxer Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter and his wrongful incarceration for murder in 1966. Steve will shed light on his experiences during their investigations into this wrongful conviction and the events that led to it. It’s a story every Dylan fan will be aware of.
