College set to mark occasion with guest speakers and events.
One of Birmingham’s leading educational establishments, South and City College, will be marking this year’s International Women’s Day with a dedicated event.
As one of the few women-only college campuses in the UK, the Golden Hillock Women’s Centre is the perfect premise to host this event.
Taking place on Friday 8th March 2019 between 9.15am and 12pm, students will be encouraged to participate in a variety of activities, each designed to inspire women in some way.
Several guest speakers will be present, including The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Yvonne Mosquito, who will commence a meet and greet at 10am.
Other activities will include inspirational readings by students, staff-led student engagement sessions and mindfulness and mental health workshops directed by Sahara Mental Health.
Alma Aganovic, Executive Director of Marketing & Customer Experience at South and City College, confirmed: “International Women’s Day is an excellent opportunity to inspire women of all ages to stand up for what they believe in and follow their dreams.
“Through our dedicated event, we hope to show support for local female-led businesses, whilst showcasing what opportunities are available in enterprise or career paths for our female students.”
The event will also offer the opportunity for sector professionals and members of the community to provide information to women who may not be able to access it elsewhere.
These include employment specialists from recruitment agencies, members of the Refugee Council and Mohammed Vaqar from the West Midlands branch of Public Health England.
Attendees will also be able to book in for a range of beauty treatments including Mendhi, offered by the college’s skilled students.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceForBetter. The purpose of the day is to celebrate women’s’ achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality, all for a more balanced world.
