Owls get their wings clipped

Blues draw 1-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. Andy Munro watches.

It’s typical of Blues’ luck that they ran into a talented Wednesday side who are now unbeaten in four games having jettisoned yet another anonymous foreign manager to be replaced by a caretaker of the unfashionable Anglo-Saxon variety.

In view of this, most Bluenoses recognised that this would be a difficult fixture against opponents who have spent more than a few bob on their side and boast strong and passionate home support.

Early on, Fletcher netted yet again for the Owls and, in fairness, they deserved their half-time lead. At that stage Maghoma was substituted (tactical or injury?) to be replaced by young Mahoney and whether it was that or a stiff half-time talking to, that stirred a previously tired looking Blues into some comparatively frenetic play.

The game ebbed and flowed with chances at both ends until the irrepressible Juke and Adams partnership worked their usual goal scoring magic, to give Blues a not undeserved equaliser.

Overall, perhaps the most credit should go to Lee Camp who pulled off some excellent saves and apparently is in the top four Championship keepers in terms of numbers of shots saved. Maybe, it’s time for his many detractors to (if you”ll excuse the pun) ‘decamp’ elsewhere.
