Funding available for amplifying and connecting dance in Birmingham and beyond.
Dance Hub Birmingham have announced the commissioning round for South Asian dance genre artists who are based in Birmingham or the West Midlands and will be developing and presenting work in the region is now open. The deadline for applications is 11th February.
A further round for Dance for D/deaf and Disabled People, Inclusive or Integrated Dance Artistic Commissions will open on 28th January with the closing date of 28th February.
Through the South Asian dance genre strand Dance Hub Birmingham will award four commissions of up to £7,500. Dance Hub Birmingham are keen to support the development of
Dancers who have trained in any of the classical South Asian dance styles (eg: Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri, Yakshagana, Kuchipudi, Chau, Kathakali , Mohini Attam and Sattriya) for a minimum of five years who are based in, or predominately work in, the West Midlands are eligible to apply for funding to create a new piece of work with a choreographer with whom they have not worked before (they may be a South Asian dance choreographer or a choreographer from another genre).
Monique Deletant, Director of Dance Hub Birmingham said: “I’m really excited about the work that comes from the Artistic Commissions and the opportunity to see new performances. These commissions build on the fantastic work happening in the West Midlands and this next round gives us a chance to grow dance work in areas that historically have been underfunded.”
Dance Hub Birmingham will be hosting Q&A cafe sessions for anyone with questions about the application process. These cafes are open to anyone wanting to ask the Dance Hub Birmingham team about their project, work, idea or to unpick the process of applying for a commission or bursary. Details can be found here
