The Birmingham Press

This week at the Robin

There’s certainly plenty to choose from.

There’s definitely a mixed bag appearing at the Robin 2 in Bilston over the next few nights.

Wednesday 21st November sees the return of folk and roots favourites the Oysterband. In a career lasting over forty years the band have released a string of highly-acclaimed albums in addition to building a reputation as favourites on the festival circuit as well as touring around the world.

Tickets £20

On Thursday there’s another vintage name with the arrival of eighties synth-pop band Blancmange. A string of hit singles and two gold albums saw them regarded as one of the most influential electronic pop artistes of the decade, reforming in 2011 after a quarter of a century and releasing further material including this year’s Wanderlust.

Tickets £19.50

Friday sees a punk double bill headlined by Sham 69. A string of top ten hits saw the band regarded as one of the hottest properties to emerge from the new wave scene; many years and almost as many line-up changes late they’re still going and still explosive. Also appearing are the Angelic Upstarts, still as passionate and as hard-hitting as ever.

Tickets £19.50

Then on Sunday Walter Trout, one of the biggest names in world blues, returns with his band to a venue they can be guaranteed to fill with fans knowing they’re in for a night to remember. For three decades Walter has been adding to a live reputation matching his impressive back catalogue of acclaimed recordings with the assurance of a talent that first came to prominence with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers.
