Spectacular celebration helps commemorate work of children’s hospice.

Hundreds of people gathered for a magical mini festival to help Acorns Children’s Hospice celebrate thirty years of providing world-class care.

Acorns Birthday Glow in the Park saw people from across the Acorns community come together last Sunday for a special celebration to commemorate the charity’s 30th anniversary.

The event, held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, brought together children and families, supporters, staff and volunteers for a seasonal spectacular packed with entertainment, activities and a firework finale.

Sarah Bowron, Acorns 30th Anniversary Campaign Manager, said: “What an emotional day! Acorns Birthday Glow in the Park brought together a great many of the wonderful people who make Acorns such a special community to be part of. It was a chance to celebrate the incredible work we do and make some new memories to treasure.”

The celebration also included a poignant memory walk offering families a quiet space to remember loved ones and pay tribute by adding a candle to the Heart of Lights memorial.

Sarah added: “We couldn’t mark our 30th anniversary without honouring all of the children and families who have received care and support over the last three decades. As we look to the next thirty years and beyond, we’ve never been more committed to making every day count for the children and families accessing our vital services.”

Established in 1988, Acorns offers a network of specialist palliative care and support for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions, as well as support for their families.

In the past year, the charity has cared for over 870 children and more than 1,140 families, including those who are bereaved, which means the charity remains the UK’s largest children’s hospice charity as measured by the number of children it is helping to care for.
