Event aims to engage with city’s young people.
Set to start a conversation around how we can engage more young people in today’s leadership, not just tomorrow’s, the Brum Youth Trends report asked everything from the difficult to the straightforward, the everyday to the extraordinary. Using the findings to put together a report covering health, transport, relationships, culture, the future of the region and everything in between, Brum Youth Trends will be launching its finding at the summit.
To discuss the contents, famous faces will be invited to go tête-a-tête in front of an 800-strong crowd and deduce what Birmingham can do to fix the problems they face. Those taking to the stage include: West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street; Chair of Arts Council England, Sir Nicholas Serota; local councillor, Brigid Jones; Senior Youth
Brum Youth Trends, a project spearheaded and championed by the Brum Youth Trends, is now in its second year, after a successful pilot in 2017.
Speaking about the BYT’s return, Anisa Haghdadi, founder of the Beatfreeks Collective, comments: “We cannot wait to bring this report to the people of Birmingham and reveal our findings with them!
“This project isn’t just a fascinating insight into the way the young people we interact with think and feel; it’s a call to action to start truly listening to them and taking their opinions seriously. This year, we had thousands of responses and I think this demonstrates more than anything the hunger of these young people to be heard.
“I am so incredibly proud of this city and its title as Europe’s Youngest. However, I also thing the title is futile if we refuse to listen to what it is they are trying to tell us. My hope is that having the region’s – in fact, the country’s – most influential people in the room, talking about the findings and listening to the debates, will mean that these opinions are finally going to be heard. Roll on the 10th October!”
