Cast and creative team announced for Old Rep panto

Pinocchio brought to the stage for Christmas.

The Old Rep has announced the professional cast and creative team as they bring Pinocchio to life this Christmas. Pinocchio runs from 17th November through to 30th December and is the fourth Christmas production produced by Birmingham Ormiston Academy.

Holly Sayer (pictured) takes the title role of Pinocchio and is joined by Ralph Birtwell as Geppetto. David Alwyn takes on the dual role as Mangiafucco/Little Man alongside Martin Bassindale taking the dual role as Fox/Candlewick. Daisy Ann Fletcher completes the cast as the magical Blue Fairy.

This brand-new adaptation of Pinocchio for The Old Rep stage, by playwright Toby Hulse will be directed by the familiar face of Alec Fellows-Bennett who steps off the stage to direct the action. Alec previously appeared as Ratty in the 2016 production of Wind in the Willows and as the Mad Hatter in last year’s Alice in Wonderland.

Also returning is composer and musical director Steve Allan Jones who has provided classic and memorable songs for The Old Rep’s Christmas productions over the last three years. He will be joined by choreographer Steve Elias and set and costume designer Mila Sanders – both of whom worked on The Old Rep’s Christmas show in 2016. Will Monks completes the creative team as lighting designer.

Gaynor Cheshire, CEO/Executive Principal The BOA Group said: “We are delighted with the professional cast members, individually and collectively they will bring a wealth of talent to our Christmas adventure and I can’t wait to see the roles come to life as rehearsals get started. It is also wonderful to welcome back so many familiar faces as part of our creative team, our Christmas show feels like a real family occasion and we can’t wait to bring that to our audiences.”

Alec Fellows-Bennett, Pinocchio Director added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my last two Christmas seasons at The Old Rep and it’s always fantastic to spend the festive new year in my home town. I can’t wait to direct this year’s production, the last two years on the stage have been incredible and I look forward to leading from the front and along with the whole creative team bring Pinocchio alive!”

The professional cast will be joined by an ensemble cast of students from Birmingham Ormiston Academy. For further information about Pinocchio or to book tickets call the Box Office on 0121 359 9444 or visit oldreptheatre.co.uk. Tickets start from £10.90.
