Blues get a useful draw away to Sheffield United. Andy Munro comments.
If this sequence continues it will soon be time for a new entry in the Guinness Book of Records. However good this performance was, Garry Monk must be sick of trotting out his mantra about ‘fine lines’ but in fairness, a winning goal was literally a coat of paint away as the woodwork saved the Blades on a couple of occasions.
Either way, Blues are now looking a well drilled unit and to not concede against a team that put four past our neighbours says much about the team being a tight ship. In
However, our lack of goals is still a bit of a puzzle as both Jutkiewicz and Adams have had decent patches of goalscoring in the past but it’s fairly clear that neither are in the ‘fox in the box’ category. The return of Isaac Vassell (although will it ever happen?) will be eagerly awaited by Blues fans although we are told that’s a couple of months away.
Meanwhile, Wes McDonald is scoring plenty in the reserves and one would think his confidence will be sky high so maybe he’s worth a whirl on the benc as we just aren’t cashing in on some excellent work outside the box.
It really is a case of keeping the faith and if we don’t get a result against Leeds(quite likely) then the next two home matches are going to be massive, especially given the level of opposition.
Finally, a word about youngsters Lakin and Mahoney. Both looked at home, with Lakin showing he can cut the mustard physically even on a windy night away from home, whilse Mahoney looks like he could be a real handful and maybe he needs to be brought on a bit earlier if Gary Monk is going to use him as an impact player.
