Ambridge comes to Acorns as hospice hosts Fun Day

Children’s charity opens its glorious gardens for summer fete.

Ambridge’s favourite gossip will be adding some showbiz sparkle to Acorns Children’s Hospice fete this weekend.

The Archer’s star Charlotte Martin (pictured), who plays village busy body Susan Carter, will be making a special appearance at Acorns in Birmingham’s summer spectacular on Saturday 8th September. Organisers are hoping to repeat the success of their last event, which saw more than 500 people flock to the Selly Oak hospice and raise over £4,000 towards the charity’s care for children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions.

Dee McCann, Volunteers Manager for Acorns, said: “We are so excited to welcome Charlotte to our garden fete on Saturday – she’s a fabulous addition to what will be a fantastic day. But to make it a real success, we need the support of the community. So why not do something a little different this Saturday and come along?”

The garden fete will run from 12pm to 5pm at the Oak Tree Lane hospice and will feature live entertainment, a range of stalls, games, face painting, Scottish and Morris dancing, a BBQ and refreshments. Entry is £1 for adults and free for children.

Acorns unmissable Heritage Lottery-funded Story Box Caravan will also be at the fete collecting stories of Acorns and memories from the last three decades as part of an exciting history project to celebrate the charity’s 30th anniversary.

Dee added: “It’s going to be a great fun-filled day with lots to see and do. It’s the perfect event to bring the whole family to. Plus, any money spent at the fete will help us continue our work supporting local children and their families at Acorns.”

Established in 1988, Acorns offers a network of specialist palliative care and support for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions, as well as support for their families.

The charity relies heavily on fundraising to continue providing its services, which costs nearly £10 million every year. For more information about Acorns, visit www.acorns.org.uk
