Andy Munro watches Blues progress to the FA Cup round four.
Just for once, Blues actually got a result against their bogey team and to be actually be interested in a fourth round draw almost has novelty value. Both sides fielded strong sides which is unusual these days, no doubt wanting to keep decent runs together with Burton particularly buoyed by their recent three-nil win.
In fairness, Burton were clearly the better side in the first half although Blues did have their moments as well. Llloyd Dyer could have easily got on the scoresheet, however, but it’s a mystery how a bang average winger when on loan to Blues becomes a cross between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when he plays against us. Yet, pleasingly we kept it tight for another impressive shut out and it was that born-again centre forward Gallagher who notched the winner.
There’s a long way to go but the blue shoots of recovery seem to be there and probably there needs to be three players out of the exit door and maybe two in, including a pacey forward. Rumour has it that we are after Cameron ‘Barn Door’ Jerome, which one thinks would be greeted with mixed feelings by the faithful. Still, a new face will be a bonus and one can only hope that we recoup some decent money from any player we’ve paid good money for…eg. Nsue, NDoye etc…and if loanee Bramall is shown the door then maybe we should be recalling the massive talent that is Keite?
