Acorns say Thank You

Anniversary events to acknowledge support from the public.

Acorns Children’s Hospice is marking its thirtieth anniversary by recognising the incredible contribution of its supporters and volunteers across the West Midlands, with its amazing Birmingham supporters raising over £30,000,000 in public donations alone over the last thirty years.

2018 marks thirty years since the first Acorns Hospice was opened in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Additional hospices were later opened in Walsall and Worcester. For three decades now, Acorns has provided outstanding care and vital support to life limited and life threatened children from seven counties. Acorns is now the UK’s largest children’s hospice charity, measured both by numbers of children cared for and the amount spent each year on care.

To kick off Acorns anniversary celebrations, the charity is holding 30 Days of Thanking, starting with an intensive Thank You week (30th January–2 nd February). The week will see Acorns staff and trustees personally calling and recording thank you films for supporters and volunteers across the region.

A host of celebrities and well-known names from Birmingham and beyond, including Beverley Knight, UB40 and Mark Gatiss have also recorded their own messages of thanks to those who have supported Acorns along the way.

Acorns Chief Executive, Toby Porter, said: “This is an exciting and significant year for Acorns. The only way we can begin is by offering a huge ‘thank you’ to our volunteers and supporters for their time and incredible generosity over the past 30 years.

“Our supporters have been instrumental in empowering Acorns vital services over the last 30 years and enabling us now to care for more children and families than ever before. There are always more people who need our help that we can reach and we continue to strive to help as many of these children and families as possible but we simply couldn’t do it without your amazing support.”

Toby continued: “Whether you have popped some spare change in a tin, completed an amazing challenge, baked some cakes, supported our 57 shops, given your time in special ways or contributed with a monthly donation … this is the time to say thank you for being part of our story, part of our Acorns family.’

As a special thank you to supporters during the Thank You week, Acorns shops will be holding 20 per cent discount on all goods excluding new goods. To find your nearest Acorns shop visitacorns.org.ukshops
