Northfield school children donate Christmas presents to families in need.
Children from a Northfield school have been busy little elves the past couple of weeks, wrapping presents for local families in need.
Youngsters from Wigwam Out of School Club, at Wychall Primary School, wanted to do something to spread festive cheer this year, so they decided to donate Christmas presents to a worthy local cause.
Wychall Primary School works closely with Community Interest Company Malachi, a Birmingham-based organisation that works locally and nationally with families with various needs, providing specialist and emotional support.
Every year Wychall Primary School appeals for donations of Christmas presents in order to pass them on to deserving families. The presents were originally donated to Bright Kids Group, which operates Wigwam, by Barry Tomes Media Group’s Christmas in July campaign. The campaign aims to provide gifts for worthy local causes.
Bright Kids Owner Tricia Wellings, said: “These presents were collected as part of the Christmas in July initiative, donated by the people of Birmingham. We wanted to get involved to support the initiative in ensuring the presents would get to the children that would benefit the most from them. Malachi is a wonderful organisation and we whole-heartedly support its work to spread festive cheer to those that will appreciate it the most.”
Dawn Treasure, Head of Core Business at Malachi, said: “The families that we give these presents to will be really grateful. This time of year can put a lot of financial pressure onto families and this will help to alleviate some of that pressure. We would like to say a big thank you to the kind-hearted children at Wigwam for wrapping and donating these gifts. We work closely with Wigwam and Wychall Primary School and it’s great to see us all pulling together in our different roles and offering holistic support to the families that we work with.”
