Great Western Arcade to host unique musical event

Artists set to unify the city with social experiment.

On Saturday 16th December Great Western Arcade, the unique shopping and lifestyle destination in the heart of Birmingham, is playing host to Tha Daance Maast, a vibrant musical contraption created by art collective, Swoomptheeng.

Tha Daance Maast is a new, digital, multiplayer instrument, popping up in public spaces across the West Midlands. Intended to symbolise finding a place of harmony as an individual within a group, over time, and through changing events and influences, visitors to the arcade will have the opportunity to experience this social experiment between the hours of 3pm and 6pm.

Designed to create a unified experience, up to eight people are required to participate in this unusual game, where they will use wooden controllers to affect the position of sounds within a loop. The personal choices of these individuals will then lead to a variety of musical patterns played from a central sound system. The style of music can range from rhythmic drum patterns to melodic harmonies as the audience work towards a common goal, with music and dance at its heart.

James Roberts, Centre Manager at Great Western Arcade, said: “At Great Western Arcade, we pride ourselves as being the destination where you can experience something unique, and this art collective proves to be another prime example. Tha Daance Maast is certainly different and we cannot wait to see and hear people taking part – early birds will also receive specially created, complimentary macaroons from our very own Miss Macaroon.”
